Walking Tours in the Lake District

Mountains and lake in CumbriaDMK Trekking & Walking provide guided walking in England's beautiful Lake District. The ‘Lakes’ offers everything in the way of the most spectacular scenery and exceptional mountain walking.

Cumbria is one of England's most picturesque and scenic counties with miles upon miles of mountain walking suitable for all levels of experience and ability. It offers everything from gentle lakeside walks starting or finishing with a scenic cruise on a lake steamer, up to challenging mountain summits ascended by paths or rocky ridges. If you are new to the Lake District or would simply like someone else to take over the map reading and navigation then look no further than DMK Trekking & Walking. Our leaders are experienced and seasoned walkers with exceptional knowledge of the Lakeland Fells. They all hold as a minimum qualification the Mountain Leader Award (summer) issued by the Mountain Leader Training Board of Great Britain.

All DMK walking holidays are bespoke holidays because we tailor our walks to suite you. We always reserve the right to fit the walking around the experience of the group; however if groups are large and have differing levels of ability we would provide two leaders so that all group members can get the best from their holiday.

The walks chosen for any particular day will depend on the mountain experience of those on the holiday, their levels of equipment and the prevailing weather conditions. As with all DMK holidays bespoke arrangements can be made for selective groups if they wish to complete a specific set of hills or routes. We can also cover coast to coast both walking and cycling.

Sample Walk

›Sunday Walk: High Level It is a challenging walk with some exposed ridges. Most of the airy walking can be bypassed but most should have some head for hieghts on this day.

›Helvellyn's Edges Today's walk takes in two of the Lake District's best known summits and one of its best-known ridges. Starting in the village of Glenridding we take a leisurely, but steady ascent through woods following a well-marked path. We cross a stream at the old slate works and start out ascent of our first top of the day, 'Catseye Cam'. We contour around its northern side before ascending a steep path to the summit. After traversing the summit we head for our first ridge of the day; Swirle Edge and begin our ascent of the main objective of the day, 'Helvelyn'. We look down on the still waters of Red Tarn as we make our way to the summit and depending on the weather take our lunch at the summit shelter. Our decent takes in the ridge of Striding Edge and back to Glenridding.
